How Multi Looper works

This is the complete reference for Multi Looper — every feature, every keyboard shortcut, every setting, and the design thinking behind them. If you read one page about the tool, read this one.

Open Multi Looper

Multi Looper is a free, browser-based YouTube loop tool. It is built around one core idea: a single YouTube video usually contains many sections worth practicing, not one, and a good practice tool should make it trivial to drill them in sequence. Every feature in Multi Looper exists to support that core idea.

The section model

A section in Multi Looper is a named, colored, speed-configured range within a YouTube video. It has a start time, an end time, an optional name, a color, and a per-section playback speed. You can have as many sections as you want per video. Sections are stored locally in your browser — no account, no sync, no cloud.

Sections are first-class objects. You can check and uncheck them to include or exclude them from the current playback session. You can drag them to reorder the playback order. You can edit any field on any section at any time.

Loop playback engine

When you press play in the Loop Playback panel, Multi Looper walks through every checked section in order. For each section, it seeks the YouTube player to the start, sets the playback speed to the section's speed, plays until the end time, then moves to the next section (with optional fade or instant jump).

Transitions between sections can be instant (hard cut) or faded. Fade duration is configurable in milliseconds. After cycling through every checked section once, Multi Looper can either loop forever or stop — configurable in the After Cycle setting.

Gradual speed-up mode

Gradual speed-up is an optional mode that increases the global playback speed by a configurable percentage after each full cycle of sections, up to a configurable maximum. It is the automated implementation of the classic "slow first, then speed up" practice method used by every teaching tradition.

Increment per cycle is typically 3-5%. Max speed is usually 1.0x (or 1.1x for a small headroom push). When max is reached, the mode either holds or stops, depending on your After Cycle setting.

Keyboard shortcuts

Multi Looper has a full keyboard shortcut layer for hands-on instrument practice. Space: play/pause. Arrow left/right: seek 5 seconds. Shift + arrow: seek 1 second. Square brackets [ and ]: jump to previous / next section. Minus and plus: speed down / up by 0.05. M: mark current position. L: loop-to-here (create a section from mark to current position). N: create new section starting 10 seconds from current position.

The shortcut layer is designed so you can operate the whole tool without taking your hands off your instrument. The critical ones for real-time use are Space (start/stop), M (mark phrase start), and L (close phrase section).

Share URLs

Every section configuration can be encoded into a URL with the Share button. The URL contains your complete section list — names, times, colors, speeds — and opens into a ready-to-use Multi Looper with the same configuration. This lets you hand a teacher a preconfigured practice session, or sync a routine with a bandmate, without needing accounts.

Saved videos

Multi Looper automatically remembers every video you have opened, along with its sections. The Saved Videos panel on the right side lets you jump back to any previous video instantly. You never lose work because you closed the tab.

Because everything is local, clearing your browser data will delete your saved videos. For important configurations, generate a Share URL and keep it elsewhere.

Privacy and data

Multi Looper does not send your loop data to any server. Everything lives in your browser's localStorage. We run standard Google Analytics for aggregate usage reporting, but no personal information or loop content is collected. Read the full privacy policy in the site footer.

FAQ

Do I need an account?

No. Multi Looper is free and requires no account.

Does Multi Looper work offline?

The app shell can be cached, but YouTube playback requires an internet connection. Full offline playback is not possible because the videos are served by YouTube.

Which browsers are supported?

All modern browsers: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and any Chromium variant. Mobile browsers work too, though drag-to-reorder is easier on desktop.

Can Multi Looper loop local video files?

No, Multi Looper loops YouTube videos specifically. For local files, use a desktop video player with A-B loop support.
